Isla Mujeres has been, is and will always be a fisherman’s Island, this ancient activity is an important part of their culture and is admired among locals as the capacity to provide food for their families. Spearfishing  is known among those who practice it as sea hunting, based on the fact that every fish has a different behavior and therefore it requires a specific hunting technique. Based on that fact, Isla Mujeres doesn’t  count with special regulations for hunting techniques applied, in other words, you can do it with or without Scuba equipment depending on the depth and as long as it’s not done in a protected area, you can feel free to go catch dinner  any day and if you catch  something big, more than one restaurant on the Island will be happy to cook that fish for you or your family for a small fraction of the price to the public, it doesn’t get more local than that.
